Gambia: Court Hears Pathologist in Murder Trial

The fifth prosecution witness (PW5), Mustapha Ibrahim Ali Khalid, a chief consultant, and a pathologist at the RVTH, recently testified in a murder case involving one Lamin Njie, a resident of Brikama, at the Special Criminal Court in Banjul before Justice Emmanuel Nkea.

The witness told the court he conducted a postmortem on the deceased, Muhammed Fidiga, and issued a report to that effect.

He said if he saw the report, he would be able to recognise it.

The witness identified the said postmortem report in court, which was tendered and admitted as exhibit without any objection from the defence.

PW5 further said that according to his findings, the deceased was suffering from heart problem for some time and the blood being supplied to the heart was insufficient.

He added that if the deceased was exposed to stress, that would lead to heart failure including sudden bad news, and unexpected news, adding that if he quarreled with anyone, or fought with anyone, the person would get extra stress.

Under cross-examination, the witness told the court the document at hand was his findings, and he conducted postmortem on the deceased.
