South Africa: Twenty-Six (26) Arrested in Joint Weekend Operation

The Eastern Cape Department of Transport provincial traffic Officer's held a joint operation with the South African Police Service at Mount Road Cluster, Port Elizabeth from 8 to 10 February 2013.

The operation which was aimed at radical reduction of road fatalities on the provincial roads recorded a total arrest of 26 people.

Offences recorded during the operation included 3 motorists driving without license, 01 unlicensed motor vehicle, 1 motorist failed to stop when he was stopped by a traffic officer, 2 motorists were in possession of fire arm whilst under the influence of alcohol, and they were apparently police officers from Homewood Police station.

Statistics report showed that amongst those arrested included two more police officers from Kabega Park, a Prison warder and one Medical Doctor.

This brings the total number of people arrested over the past two week-ends to 48 adding to the 22 arrested last week.
