If there is one common thing about our local celebrities, it is drama.
It all started in 2008; Bebe Cool was launching his Munene Munene album, just as Mega Dee was launching on the same date. Mega Dee was shipping in Mr Vegas to boost his show while Bebe had all his Kenyan friends.
Since there was no existing feud between Bebe and Mega, the exchange was minimal. The day for the concerts came and the two shows registered losses because of low turn ups. The following year, Bebe Cool and Bobi Wine came out to set the same concert date.
Then, all artistes jumped started doing it for publicity, but also to compare fan bases. We saw Bebe Vs Bobi Wine (again and again), Grace Nakimera Vs Goodlyfe, Jose Chameleone Vs Chris Evans, Jose Chameleone Vs Sean Paul and Emperor Orlando Vs Wyclef Jean. In all these duels - save for Chameleone/Sean Paul - one of the concerts flopped.
To kick off 2013, the dynamic duo of Moses Sekiboggo and Douglas Mayanja aka Goodlyfe's Mowzey Radio and Weasel, have set their Obudde concert on the May 10, a date they share with upcoming artiste Ibrahim Mayanja alias Prof Big Eye, who will be launching his Already Booked (or should I say, Orede Buukuti?) album.
The Observer understands that efforts to make one of them change the launch date have hit a dead end, as all both parties took to Facebook to claim the date. According to the Goodlyfe duo, it is tradition for them to have a concert in the second week of May. Indeed, Goodlyfe concerts, from Nyambura to Tonsagala, have all taken place on the second Friday of May.
"Everyone in the world including Barack Obama and Grace Nakimera, knows that a Goodlyfe album launch is on the second Friday of May," reads the Goodlyfe Facebook update. "If someone wants to book this date next year, go ahead but our show will go on even then."
Fans are torn between supporting the popular duo and morale-boosting the new kid on the block whose "buukuti" song is getting good airplay.
"Big Eye picked an 'already booked' date for his show," joked one fan on Facebook.
