South Africa: End the Scourge of Rape

press release

The Inkatha Freedom Party in KwaZulu-Natal is shocked at the news of the recent rape and murder of a schoolgirl in Jozini.

“This young, innocent child was on her way to school when she was accosted and her life brutally cut short. This inhuman and cruel act must be condemned in the strongest way by all civilised, law abiding citizens,” said Hon. Les Govender, Shadow MEC for Social Development.

In many parts of the province, children walk long distances, often through forests and over difficult terrain, to get to schools. These children are at risk on a daily basis.

“It is a sad incitement on our social mindset that women and children are falling victims to such brutality. The frequency of such acts is unacceptable - even one rape is one too many,” said Hon. Govender.

The IFP is calling for a concerted effort by all role-players from government and communities to end this assault on the people of the Province and Country.
