The joint Senate Committee on Police Affairs and National Security on Tuesday in Awka began probe into the dumping of 19 corpses in Ezu River at Amansea community in Anambra.

Speaking on the occasion, Sen. Paulinus Nwagu, Nwagu, representing Ebonyi Central Zone, and leading six other members, promised that the committee would do its best to unravel the mystery.

He appealed to the public, individuals, groups and communities to come forward with useful information.

Earlier, Deputy Governor Emeka Sibeudu commended the committee for the visit, adding that since the incident, government had been responding to the needs of Amansea community.

He said potable water had been supplied, while the river surroundings had been fumigated.

The traditional ruler of Amansea, Igwe, Kenneth Okonkwo, said the incident had put the entire community in confusion.

Okonkwo appealed for more assistance from the federal and state governments

At Tuesday's sitting, Commissioners for Health and Local Government, Dr Lawrence Ikeako and Mrs Azuka Enemuo, testified.

Others who also testified were the Awka North Transition Council Chairman, Mr Joy Enweluzor, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Ballah Nasarawa and MASSOB Director of Information, Mr Uchenna Madu.
