Monrovia was serene Tuesday as Liberians observed an official holiday to mourn in solidarity with the government and people of Guinea after the plane bringing their military delegation to attend the 56th anniversary celebration of the Armed Forces of Liberia, crashed killing all 11 occupants including Guinea's army chief staff, Gen. Souleymane Kelefa Diallo.

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who Monday visited the site of the crash in Charlesville, some 35km south-east of Monrovia, declared the holiday for Liberians to mourn in solidarity with neighbors Guinea for the tragic loss.

Meanwhile, the chair of the Senate Committee on Defense and Security, Nimba County Senior Senator Prince Y. Johnson has called for an immediate full-scale investigation into the fatal plane crash.

He revealed that the black box has been recovered and dispatched to Canada for deciphering to ascertain facts surrounding the crash, which occurred shortly after dawn Monday.

Sen. Johnson also extended condolences to the Guinean government and families of deceased.

In a related development, Episcopal prelate Monsgr. Robert G. Tikpor urged the government and people of Liberia to revere the death of the Guinean officials, who were coming to attend celebrations marking the 56th anniversary of the AFL, "to strengthen mutual relations with Guinea and Guineans."
