ECOWAS Commiserates with Guinea Over Death of Top Military Officers

Abuja - Cote d'Ivoire — The President of the ECOWAS Commission Kadré Désiré Ouédraogo has sent a condolence message to the President of Guinea, His Excellency Prof. Alpha Conde over the death of 12 persons including Guinea's Army Chief of Staff, General Souleymane Kelefa Diallo in a helicopter crash near Liberia's capital Monrovia on Monday 11th January 2013.

On behalf of the Commission, the President expressed his heartfelt sympathy and solidarity with the Government, People and Guinean Armed Forces, as well as the families of the late military officers and crew members, who were on their way to attend Liberia's Armed Forces Day celebrations.

General Diallo served his country and the Community creditably, particularly through his contributions to the work of the Regional Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff.

His death and those of his military compatriots come at a time when the region is harnessing its military expertise to deal with emerging security challenges.
