Egypt: Army - No Foreign Military Bases in Sinai

The Egyptian army stressed that there are no foreign military bases in Sinai.

There are two camps of multinational forces whose job is to make sure Egypt and Israel are abiding by the security part of the peace treaty, the military spokesman said Tuesday 12/2/2013.

Colonel Ahmed Mohamed Ali pointed to a difference between a military base and a camp of multinational forces.

As for a military base, an agreement should be reached with the host country after the approval of the parliament and it is run by army units that can very well keep weapons and heavy equipment, he explained.

This is not the case for the camp of multinational forces, where no weapons are allowed and which acts under the supervision of the Liaison Agency with international organizations affiliated to the Armed Forces, Ali made it clear.
