Eritrea: Habero Sub-Zone Engaged in Soil, Water Conservation

Keren — The inhabitants of Habero sub-zone are engaged in soil and water conservation activities with a view to raising agricultural output. Accordingly, they have constructed around 10,000 cubic meters of water catchment walls and over 1,500 Km of terraces.

Mr. Mohammed-Seid Ibrahim and Mr. Mohammed Adem, Administrators of Habero-Tselim and Habero-Tsaeda Administrative areas respectively, explained that the popular undertaking which is being conducted three times a week would continue until the onset of the rainy season.

Among the participants, Ms. Fatina Humed, Ms. Fatina Mahmoud, Ms. Fatina Osman, Mr. Mohammed-Ali Suleiman and Mr. Mohammed Mahmoud indicated that the community has already acquired ample experience in this regard, thus giving rise to enrichment of water resources and amelioration of the condition with vegetation.

Meanwhile, the Agriculture Ministry's branch in the sub-zone disclosed that a similar campaign is being conducted in Mezret Administrative area.
