Alieu Khan who used to be an entertainment journalist with the Daily Observer and Ebou Njie who is a D.J in Texas United States are managing a website called what's on Gambia. Where they showcase Gambian talents in General ranging from music, entertainment, comedy, movies, fashion etc etc.
This reporter caught up with one of the co-founders of the website Mr. Alieu Khan who now lives in Finland to shed more light on the website. Mr. Khan said they realised that if they google Gambian artist they found no information about them at all. He said they organise festivals in Europe and that when they want to invite local artists mostly the Europeans don't know the artist they want to bring and that's why they came up with the idea of creating this website for Gambian entertainment in general. He said they manage and update the what's on Gambia website and they normally talk about Gambian Art and showbiz so that any body who googles any particular Gambian artist you can be able to find some information.
He said so far they had an exclusive interview with Singhateh and another with Dr. Olugander. One with Manding Morry and another with Bro K. He said they are going to upload those interviews and are going to be good for the artists.
He called on Gambian artists to value interview no matter what the medium because you never know what that can bring for you.
When asked how popular is the website, Mr. Khan said the website is online and that it is becoming popular by the day. He said many people are accessing the what's on Gambia website. He said they are not focusing on only Gambia entertainment in the country but also those outside the country.
"We really want to expose our artists, we want to expose our entertainment and we want to expose our celebrities"He asserted.
When asked to shed light on Gambian artists, Mr. Khan said Gambian artists are doing good and developing because we have young talents coming up. He however called on Gambian artists to keep the originality in their music and never imitate foreign artists.
"I organise festivals in Europe and I sometimes invite Gambian artists to come and attend the festival. I invited people like Freaky Joe, Mahauk etc, lot of them are been in to the festivals. But it is always difficult if you cannot google artist and find them on the internet and the aim of this website is simply to help Gambian artists to get recognition beyond their borders.
