Gambian Boxer Beaten At Intercontinental

Gambian boxer Patrick Mendy bit the dust to WBA intercontinental champion Patrick Nielsen on points Mendy-based in the United Kingdom had had a heated exchange of words during pre-match comments and vowed to wow Nielsen before the Dane's home crowd.

But the Gambian lacked the luck dose to see off match favourite Nielsen and went on to lose on points difference.

The 22-year-old lost on a score of 117-110, 117-110 and 117-111 before buzzing turnout of two thousand one hundred and thirty-one at Esbjerg -recovering from being finished off in the fifth round to push Nielsen this far.

Nielsen floored his opponent in the fifth to extend his number of victories to eighteen following a bright starting by Mendy.

Mendy got back to his feet, however, and in the next round he switched to box southpaw which seemed to confuse the champion.

The former prizefighter champion, Mendy finished on a high but it wasn't enough as he glided to his sixth defeat.
