Somalia: Jubbaland Conference to Begin February 23rd

A conference on the formation of an administrative region for Jubbaland will begin February 23rd in Kismayo, chairman of the Jubbaland formation technical committee Moalim Ibrahim Mohamed announced Monday (February 11th).

More than 500 delegates from the Somali government, Intergovernmental Authority on Development member states, as well as elders from the Lower Juba, Middle Juba and Gedo regions will attend the conference, UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported.

The February 23rd conference at Kismayo University will be the latest attempt to create a viable administration for residents of the three regions. Technical committee representatives and officials from IGAD arrived in Kismayo on Saturday.
