Nigeria: Female Journalist Assaulted in Abuja

The Chief Executive Officer of Coolcover, an engineering firm based in Abuja, John Offiong, on Wednesday, allegedly assaulted a female journalist in Parakou Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja.

Aderonke Ogunleye, the reporter, went to visit a friend at her Parakou Crescent home, when Mr. Offiong demanded that she greeted him before getting to her original destination.

Shocked at the demand which Ms. Ogunleye described as a "rude alteration", she ignored him and continued her walk to her friend's apartment.

Ms. Ogunleye said Mr. John then hurriedly went after her and gave her a resounding slap on her back which shook her.

He then ordered the security guard to walk her out of the compound after calling her "a stupid girl".

A quick investigation showed that Mr. Offiong is a tenant and resides in one of the six flats in the compound.

When PREMIUM TIMES tried to hear Mr. Offiong's side of the story, he confirmed that he really demanded that Ms. Ogunleye greeted him before leaving to her friend's apartment.

"She saw me and did not greet me," he said. He, however, denied that he hit her.
