Charles Ajunwa writes on one of the world's renowned authors, Robin Sharma, who will be visiting Lagos next week to deliver a lecture titled, "Winning Leadership Lessons To Build A Great Organisation"
"Our goal is to impact on the culture of organisations by engaging and motivating people positively to be mindful and to be present at work, which will, ensure better performance and increase productivity across board. We are not saying that we have the solution but we can help people to be mindful and be more present at work."
The above words were those of Mr. Tokunbo Akerele, the Convener of The Leadership Faculty, a Lagos-based consulting firm, whose organisation will be bringing to Nigeria for the first time a renowned author in the world, Robin Sharma, to speak on the theme: "Winning Leadership Lessons to Build A Great Organisation."
Akerele premised his statement on multifaceted challenges people face in their daily lives juggling work responsibility and caring for family at the same time.
To him, such challenges will always require that there is a motivation to move on. He says, "You know living in Lagos especially, is a challenge. People encumbered with a lot of things. There is a lot of traffic congestion driving to and from work and while at work they are calling you from home that the generator has packed up or they are calling you that the driver didn't pick your children from school. So people are burdened and they are not present at work and if they are not present at work, you cannot get the value they are meant to add to work and that way success is hindered."
The seminar, according to Akerele, will be based on Sharma's international bestseller, "The Leader Who Had No Title." According to him, many companies and individuals have signed on for the seminar scheduled to hold at the Shell Hall of Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos, on February 19, 2013 which will be just for a day.
"The feedback has been great. A lot of companies and individuals have signed on. As you know Robin Sharma is a consultant to many multinationals and his views are well respected globally.
"He is coming to Nigeria, to talk about the winning leadership lessons to build a great organisation which we all need. He is known also for his work in elite performance, personal discovery and for coaching. He will be coming to Nigeria to impact on the lives of many people. Personally, my life has been impacted by many of his books and this is one of the reasons we thought to bring him. He is a professional speaker on leadership and managing change.
"There are a lot that will be dealt with that are issues surrounding work today. So The Leadership Faculty is like any faculty in any university where there are different departments within it to mentor, to coach, to inspire, to motivate and to help people move from where they are to where they should be. As you know many international stars, even though they are stars, and they are doing great things, they still need coaches. Chief Executive Officers need coaches and leaders in organisations need coaches. We set up this company so that we can offer this tool to CEOs, senior management, leaders and to people in organisations," Akerele said
Akerele who is not unmindful of the fact that Sharma has a different orientation in terms of how things work in Africa, especially Nigeria, says, "The science of running an organisation all over the world is the same. The man who started the fire stone tyre said that the highest calling of leadership is to impact on people. So it's all about peoples.
"Robin Sharma may not live here and may not be an African, but the science of running organisations are the same. So he will be sharing thoughts on life, leadership, and running effective organisations that we can apply to our environment. There are some fundamental things like demand and supply; like the welfare of the people; and like the leadership style. So these are fundamental issues that would be addressed."
The audience expected at the seminar according to Akerele will be potential leaders, because Robin Sharma focuses his talks on next generation of business leaders. So, it's not just for those who are leaders at the moment, but those who aspire to be leaders. He will be able to share from his wealth of wisdom on how they can be more successful."
Giving more insight on the goals of the seminar, Akerele maintains that it is to enable corporate level executives, top management and young managers embrace a new form of leadership, "that will help them become better people in their organisations, create a platform with Robin Sharma that will help impact on lives and possibly lead to change in their organisations and in the nation as a whole, and to help raise new leaders that will begin to think differently. The message we want to pass on is that leadership is changing and the tools of this change are incorporated in Robin Sharma's international best seller, "The Leader Who Had No Title."
The highly inspirational presentation will teach the following: the new rules of remarkable leadership, the devotions of leaders without titles, how to develop the mindset of a leader, six productivity rules of leaders without titles, the rules for being amazing, simple strategies for world-class relationships, personal leadership lessons to stay strong amidst turbulence and focused in the face of uncertainty, the specific tactics that the best companies do to get even better and peak performance tactics to do world-class work in busy times.
Participants at the seminar are expected to learn the following: what the business leaders and organisations do to drive their remarkable results, how to create a leadership culture of exceptional performers, breaking tactics to transform turbulence into measurable success, real-world ways to defeat stress, build an unbeatable mindset, unleash energy and balance your personal life, powerful lessons to help your team become world-class innovators who are constantly doing things better, how to work and influence people, regardless of your position and a method to recognise and then seize opportunities in times of deep change.
