Chelsea duo of Victor Moses and Mikel Obi and Nigeria Premier League player Sunday Mba were crowd favourites at Tuesday's special reception in honour of the victorious Super Eagles by the president Goodluck Jonathan at the State Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja.
Goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama was also greeted with loud ovation during the event. Presenting the players one after the other to President Jonathan by president Nigeria Football Federation, Aminu Maigari, the audience cheered aloud when the names of Victor Moses, Mikel Obi and Sunday Mba names were mentioned by Maigari.
It was a thunderous ovation for the trio following their superlative performances at the Nations Cup. Victor Moses almost single handedly qualified Nigeria for the knock out stage after he was fouled twice in the 18 yard box. He went on to convert both in the very last 10 minutes of the encounter.
For Mikel Obi, his command of the midfield was legendary while Sunday Mba got the ovation for his superb performance as one of the home based. He got the winners over Cote d'Ivoire in the dreaded quarter final and the lone goal that gave Nigeria the cup over Burkina Faso.
