Nigeria: Al-Mizan Journalist Re-Arrested in Kaduna

Reports from Kaduna State indicate that one of the two Kaduna-based reporters arrested last December by the State Security Services, SSS, Awwal Musa, has been re- arrested.

Mr. Musa was one of the two journalists working for Al-Mizan newspapers who were arrested and released without charge after about a week in detention.

A source said Mr. Musa's arrest on Thursday morning followed the same pattern adopted by the SSS in December when he and his colleague were brutalized and then whisked away in a pre-dawn raid.

"The men came in large number at around 3 a.m. and just whisked him away," our source said.

He, however, could not say if Mr. Musa or any member of his family were molested as was the case in December.

It is also not clear if the SSS is behind Thursday's arrest.

We are making efforts to contact the Kaduna State Police Command and the SSS to confirm Mr. Musa's whereabouts and the reason for his reaarrest.

We will provide updates as we get more information.
