Kenya: Two Kids Drown in Ol Kalou

Two children drowned in a family fish pond in Ol Kalou. John Macharia, 2, and Hannah Nyambura, 9, were playing when the younger one slipped and fell into the pond.

"Nyambura jumped into the pond to rescue Macharia but also unfortunately drowned," said Nyandarua North police chief Benjamin Onsongo.

He said one of the children was visiting the home at Muthaithi village . Their parents Joseph Mwangi and Benard Muchiri reported the matter at Olkalou police station.

The bodies were retrieved by police and taken to JM Kariuki Memorial Hospital mortuary. In Ndaragwa, a 16-year-old boy committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope inside their house.

Nyandarua North police boss Benjamin Onsongo said James Waithaka, who was said to have a mental problem, went missing on February 6 at Muruai . The body was found by his grandmother.
