Kenya: Locals Stop Land Division

A resident of Lamu has filed a case at the High Court in Malindi seeking to block land adjudication for a settlement scheme in Lamu East Constituency.

Mohamed Mbwana Shee is seeking orders to prohibit the Lamu District Lands Adjudication and Settlement Officer from proceeding with Mvundeni Land adjudication process.

In the notice signed by Munyao Muthama and Kashindi advocates for Mbwana, Mohammed has also demanded that the court bans the Chairman of Lamu East Constituency Development Committee from releasing Sh1.5 million that had been re-allocated for funding the Mkokoni community land adjudication process.

Mbwana in the affidavit he sworn as a resident of Mkokoni village said Mvundeni area is largely uninhabited because majority of indigenous residents fled the area in the 1960s.
