Kenya: Judges Reject New Salary Proposals

Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association has rejected the salaries proposed by the Salary and Remuneration Commission.

Speaking at session chaired by the commission's vice chair Daniel Ogutu in Kisii yesterday, the judge's association treasurer Walter Onchuru said the new structure was demoralising to them.

"It is not our culture as magistrates to beg for salaries but we have been forced do so because there is no way we can be put in the same category with members of county assemblies," he said. Ogutu assured the magistrates that their proposals will be incorporated in the final report.
