Kenya: Shahbal Slams Opinion Polls

Mombasa governor aspirant Suleiman Shahbal has dismissed a recent opinion poll conducted in the seaside city as a 'figment of imagination'.

The poll was conducted by Ipsos Synovate on commission by the Standard Group. It showed that Shahbal's rival Hassan Joho would win the race with 52 per cent of the vote, while Shahbal would get a token 19 per cent of the vote. Other aspirants Ibrahim 'Babangida' Khamis and Abdalla Mwaruwa would get four and three per cent respectively.

Tendai Mtana and Isaac Mutuku would each garner one per cent of the vote, the poll where 887 registered voters were allegedly interviewed showed.

"We expect an organisation such as Ipsos to be factual and independent. We wish to dismiss the polls and affirm that we are on track to winning the forthcoming elections," said Shahbal.
