Kenya: Activist Against Privatising Port

A political activist in Mombasa has opposed presidential candidate Musalia Mudavadi's plan to privatise the port. Speaking in her office yesterday, Mumtaz Omar said privatising the port is not the solution to the country's economic woes.

"We fought against the same about six months ago. If the port is privatised, they will employ their own people and leave the locals out," said Omar.

During Monday's historic presidential debate, Mudavadi said he will privatise institutions such as the port and the airports to generate income.
