Nigeria: Merger of Opposition Parties Won't Achieve Anything - Babatope

Lagos — FORMER Minister of Transport and a member of the Board of Trustees of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, yesterday, said the merger among opposition parties in Nigeria would not achieve any result.

He said the merger cannot withstand the PDP machinery at the 2015 polls.

He said: "I believe strongly that the merger among opposition parties will make Democracy in Nigeria strong but perhaps if you go by what is happening among some of the so called parties now, you will realise that there is contradiction among the political parties involved and that will eventually destroy the moves they are making.

"I hope they can be serious about what they intend to achieve because I can tell you specifically that the more united they are, the more destruction their merger will suffer because they will never agree among themselves.

"When the time comes, people who think their unity will drive them home will realize there is more cracks among them than what they are seeing in the PDP."
