Nigeria: Three Security Guards Bag Six Months for Negligence

An Abuja Upper Area Court on Wednesday sentenced three private security guards attached to the "EDA Plaza" to six months imprisonment for negligent conduct.

Those sentenced are Boniface Omanga, 36; Alphonsus Oota, 29, and Msuage Oota, 29.

The presiding officer, Mr Ahmed Ado, sentenced the three after they pleaded guilty to negligence of duty.

Ado, however, gave them an option of N3,000 fine each.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Mr Simon Ibrahim, told the court that the convicts "negligently allowed thieves" into the plaza on January, 28.

He said that the trio were on duty on the said date when the thieves broke into the plaza and carted away armoured cables and five drums of paint, valued at N320,100.

The offence, according to him, violates Section 196 of the Penal Code. NAN
