Egypt: Military Says Death of Boy Potato Seller 'Accidental'

Thirteen-year old Omar Salah who was shot last week near the U.S. embassy was killed by accident, official spokesman of the armed forces said on Thursday.

The spokesman said that a security forces member in charge of manning a security checkpoint during a change of shifts accidentally shot the boy.

The incident had "no hostile nature ... and it was not intentional", the spokesman said in a statement on his official Facebook page.

The spokesman said that the armed forces insist on continuing investigations and pledge to take legal action against the person responsible for the accident.

The armed forces apologized for the unintentional killing of Omar Salah.
