Windhoek — Ongoma is offering its popular drumming circle to new audiences at the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre () on Friday, February 22.
This is an interactive event for all those who love the beat of Africa and would like to join in. The event takes place at the FNCC Terrace and tickets are N$30 each in dabance and N$40 at the door.
Ongoma is a drumming and marimba ensemble established in 2002.
The core group consists of percussionists, marimba-players and vocalists Desmond Nasima, Noddy J. Alfredt, Jomo Ikela and singing talent Ponti Dikuua. Known for its captivating rendition of African standards as well as originals first released on their album "The Natives are Restless", the ensemble introduced interactive drumming events to Namibia.
For this event on the FNCC terrace Ongoma will do a performance and then invite visitors to join a drumming circle.
Djembe drums will be available at the venue, but participants are welcome to bring their own.
This is a participatory event, and all complimentary activities such as poi spinning or juggling are more than welcome.
