JOYCE Mwanza and Benson Lungu both 19 years old were last Saturday crowned Miss and Mr Chipata College of Education 2013 respectively.
The two were crowned at colourfull ceremony held at Chipata College of Education assembly hall which was filled to capacity in Chipata District.
Initially, the followers had to misjudge that the winner of Miss Chipata College of Education was contestant number one, Idah Sarah Zulu 18 who showed resilient on stage to amazement of her fellow
students who stayed glued to the beauty contest for eight hours.
Unfortunately, the young-lady was nowhere rather tumbled to the rest as they completely failed to recognize her effort by four adjudicators who were drawn from the ministry of education.
In actual fact, one of the adjudicators was a lecturer from Chipata College of Education with the rest coming from the ministry of education within the border town.
Spiced up by Chipata local artistes such as Masarts and Ben B, the beauty pageants competed in casual, office, sports, traditional and cocktail respectively.
As usual, during the traditional wear, ladies were being judged while funny worn by men were not being judged.
Mwanza and Lungu who are in their first year pursuing diploma in teaching beat other 14 contestants in what turned out to be a hot contest.
The ceremony kicked off as early as 21:30 hours and at around 22:00 hours, the Master of Ceremonies (MCs) announced the contestants in different categories.
Eventually at around 03:00hours, Mwanza and Lungu were announced the winners of the pageant sending their fans into wild celebrations.
Judges had a task to choose the most beautiful female student and the most handsome male student in the entire college.
The two and other winners would be officially crowned during the assembly today (Friday).
The first and second runners-up or otherwise First Princesses and First Price on the other hand were Inonge Museto 22, and Musa Mwanza 20, respectively.
Contestants Michael Ngoma 19, and Marrieta Mvula 24, who emerged as second prince and Princesses.
Evelyn Chipeta 18, won Miss Personality while Timothy Mwinga Haangoma 21, also won Mr Personality.
Those who did not make it was Jessica Mwale 22, Elina Lungu 22, Esther Daka 20 while ladies category while in men category Amon Banda 22, Alfred Mukenda 23, Lusungu Banda 22 as well as Fanwel Banda 20 who did not show up failed to tick.
There was great entertainment from various established and upcoming musicians alike for about an hour before the contestants hit the highway to showcase their catwalk skills in different costumes as well as a question and answer session.
A power cut however almost ruined the event with no standby generator in place, forcing the show to start at 20:30 hours instead of the initial 19:00 hours.
The event was attended not only by students of college but also a number of friends of the students including lecturers.
The show was graced by college social welfare Chairperson Lazarus Daka and it is an annual event.
