Rwanda: Free Writing Clinic to Commence At Goethe Institut

A Literary summit on creative writing, hosted by Elizabeth Senja Spackman, will begin next Wednesday at the Goethe Institut in Kacyiru. Spackman, a poet and lecturer at the Kigali Institute of Education, has been in Rwanda for three years on a Fulbright grant to work with Rwandan artists and writers.

The focus of this creative writing workshop, titled 'Truth Slant', is about how to make writing true even while we are making things up.

Some of the other issues that will be discussed at the workshop are writer's responsibility to the truth when telling other people's stories, or claiming to tell our own, when an imagination can help find a more human truth than literal reporting could?

Whether you are a literary beginner or advanced, these exchanges will provide you with new impulses for your own writing. Experimentation and writing outside your usual style will be strongly encouraged.

So, if you are an aspiring writer, or even an experienced one, attend the Summit at 6:30pm.
