Tanzania: Veteran Politician Elinewinga Discharged From Hospital

Kilimanjaro — A veteran politician who held various government positions including being a minister in the first phase's government, Mzee Israel Elinewinga,89, has been discharged from Machame Hospital.

"Due to old age, Mzee Elinewinga has been suffering various ailments including having both his legs paralyzed but after undergoing treatment at Machame Hospital he is now doing well," said the Hai District Commissioner, Mr Novatus Makunga.

The Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner, Mr Leonidas Gama, visited the old veteran after his release over the weekend, who once served as the Kilimanjaro "District" Commissioner during the time it was part of the Northern Province, at Losaa Village in Hai.

Between 1974 and 1975 Elinewanga served as Minister for Water, Minerals and Energy and was later moved to the Ministry of Education in 1975 where served as minister until 1978 where he returned to the Ministry of Water, Mineral and Energy ministry until 1982. Mzee Elinewanga is an alumnus of Makerere University in Uganda.
