Tanzania: Coptic Pope to Meet With Kikwete

THE visiting Coptic Orthodox Pope of the Church of Alexandria, His Holiness Theodoros, would on Monday have audience with President Jakaya Kikwete to thank him for great support granted to his church carrying out social initiatives in the country.

Addressing journalists in Dar es Salaam on Saturday, Pope Theodoros, said his Church plans to establish AIDS/HIV centres countrywide, saying the centres would provide free-of-charge health services. He said his Church is constructing a hospital in Bukoba Region, and the foundation stone was laid by President Kikwete recently.

Pope Theodoros noted that his Church has carried out water projects to facilitate people access clean water to fifty villages in Iringa region and that the Church runs orphanages in the country. He further pointed out that the Church would establish a missionary centre for East and Central Africa in Arusha Region.

Mwanza Coptic Orthodox Bishop Jeronymos said his church bought a drilling to carry out the well projects in areas facing water shortage in the Lake Zone regions which include Mwanza, Bukoba and Mara.
