Puntland President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole on Friday (February 15th) publicly blamed al-Shabaab for the assassination of Sheikh Abdulkadir Nur Farah.

"His killing shows that [al-Shabaab militants] will not let anyone live," Farole said in a public address, according to Somalia's Garowe Online. "If they believe in Islam, would they kill the Islamic scholars? That is enough to reflect upon. I urge the people of Somalia to wake up against this enemy of Islam."

Farah was killed on Friday during the Asr prayer in the al-Badar mosque in Garowe. Police have arrested the suspected killer, Abdirahman Hussein Jama Bile.

Farole said there were many witnesses to the assassination and a group of youths chased down the suspected killer and overwhelmed him. Three youths were injured in the melee, and one remains in critical condition, Farole said.
