Uganda: ICRC Celebrates 150th Anniversary

International Committee of the Red Cross, its partners and colleagues in the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement officially kick off celebrations in Uganda to mark the 150th Anniversary.

The kick off for the celebrations started yesterday 17th Feb 2013 the first date of the "Special Commission of the society [of public Welfare] in favor of soldiers wounded during war" at there headquarters in Geneva which flagged off the worldwide celebrations.

Meanwhile around 60 delegations have planned events or activities to mark the anniversaries through which they intend to sensitize people around the world on how the Red Cross works and where they stand on a variety of issues of humanitarian concern.

ICRC is an impartial, and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance.

This celebration aims to reflect on various issues of humanitarian concern and to acknowledge the contribution of all those who have worked and are still working to help the ICRC fulfill its obligations.
