Somalia: Three Al-Shabaab Members Defect to Somali Forces

Three al-Shabaab members defected to Somali government forces in the town of Beledweyne in the Hiran region on Monday (February 18th), Hiiraan Online reported.

Beledweyne police commissioner Ali Dhuh Mahad, who displayed the three men to the media, said they welcomed the defectors and called on militants to lay down their arms.

"These three young men have decided to defect from al-Shabaab and join the peace process," Mahad said.

One of the defectors who spoke to the media said he was an al-Shabaab member for nine months and fought in many battles.
