Somalia: African Union Mission in Somalia Consults Local Leaders in Lower Shabelle

African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) officials have held consultations with leaders from towns in the Lower Shabelle region that were recently liberated from al-Shabaab, AMISOM announced Monday (February 18th).

Regional elders, members of parliament, district commissioners and other local leaders from areas around Janaale, Awdhigle and Barire attended the meeting, organised by AMISOM's political unit and conducted by Sector 1 commander Brigadier Michael Ondoga.

Participants exchanged ways to improve dialogue and co-ordination with AMISOM in order to bolster security gains made by the Somali government.
