Tertiary institutions on the Plateau may soon be shut down indefinitely by their workers following the refusal by the state government to pay them their outstanding three months salaries it's owed them since last year.

Disclosing this in a press conference in Jos on Monday, the Joint Unions of Plateau State Owned Tertiary Institutions (JUPTI) also gave the state government till February 22 to pay the salaries and address other demands or face "total and indefinite strike action".

Chairman of the joint unions, Comrade Victor Dawurung, who led other union leaders to the conference, lamented that tertiary institutions workers in the state have suffered untold neglect from the state government, so much that no fewer than 150 workers have left for greener pasture, adding that apart from the three months salaries that are not paid, the workers have "suffered non-implementation of 7% Peculiar Allowance and 2% Allowance for non-teaching staff."
