Windhoek — UNAM Strikers cricket team claimed the 2nd League T20 trophy by beating FNB WHSOBCC 2 on home turf in Windhoek, on Saturday. The students batted first, but did not get off to the best of starts. Their first three wickets fell for only 11 runs, but skipper Gareth Cloete (26) and Dickson Vambe (36) revived their innings and helped the Clever Boys to post a modest total of 118/7, that seemed not enough. WHS's opening bowlers took 5 wickets apiece with Kimmie Khan 2/21 and Christo Greef 3/18.
WHSOBCC 2 got their chase off to a shaky start as Warrick Ockhuys disturbed the timber of Christo Greef in the first over, while Samuel Barnard got trapped in front in the 2nd over to see them at 1/2.
Quillen Anderson (28) seemed the only batsman to provide some resistance for WHS, as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. A few lusty blows from Ali Taj (16) at the end was about it for them and WHSOBCC 2 ended its innings on 84/8, leaving UNAM Strikers to clinch victory by 34 runs to earn their 2nd League T20 title.
