Kenya: Police Detonate Abandoned Bomb in Meru

19 February 2013

A bomb believed to have been left behind by colonialists was found and detonated in Timau area of Meru county. Area deputy police boss Joel Chebii said that the bomb was discovered by a farmer who was working on his field. The farmer reported the discovery to the police who detonated it.

"We managed to retrieve it (the bomb) where it had landed the day before. We thank wananchi who took time to inform us on the same because had they actually tampered with it, it could have caused harm," Chebii said. He cautioned residents to report any other suspicious devices to the authorities and let police handle them.
