The National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) in Zimbabwe has today filed an application at the country's High Court seeking an extension of the referendum date which is set for March 16th, saying the public has not been given time to read and understand the complex draft constitution.
The pressure group said in a statement on Monday 18th March 2013 that Zimbabweans would need at least two months, and not 30 days, to conduct civic education to analyse the draft charter so that they can make informed decisions on what they will be voting for.
The NCA accuses ZANU PF and the two MDC formations of fast tracking the process, as a ploy to deny Zimbabweans a chance to "scrutinize the flawed and undemocratic draft which they authored."
Political activist and University of Zimbabwe lecturer, Munyaradzi Gwisai, told SW Radio Africa: "There are no bread and butter socio economic rights for women, for students, for workers in this constitution. It's a constitution for the rich and the politicians."
The draft charter was presented to Parliament on February 6th and it only took the House of Assembly 24 hours to adopt and approve the draft. This was followed by a government gazette a week later, stating that the referendum will be held next month.

It’s taken these guys many many months and 50 million dollars, ( imagine what the water system would look like with an injection of 50 million) not 179 pages of wasted paper, to twist and turn the constitution to suit themselves and enslave its people, written in some ambiguous ways so it can be violated to suit them like gods. But they want everyone else to say yes after 30 days !!. Its time to suspend the current government completely until the people have read and understood what has been pushed in front of them. Allowing the people and only the people to decide and not the elected people, decide on what’s good for the PEOPLE and not the money hungry leaders. (All they want to do is fill their pockets even more and enslave the people of the country) It’s time for Zimbabweans to say NO to this and NO more useless governance. Get them out and let’s have some healthy new blood in the system. Oh geez they have bought in some new green bombers, see how they can twist things.
The plate saw a new light arrive and the big stone knows the end is very near. All the other stones and bones are vibrating. Some of the small stones have seen gold arrive in strange places. The new light brings great change. There is another light going to arrive.
