The attention of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has been drawn to a publication in some local dailies indicating that the Commission brutalized and humiliated the Director of Communications at the Ministry of Public Works, Jesefu Keita during his arrest by the Commission.
The LACC wishes to state that on February 11, 2013, it did arrest Mr. Keita for his continuous arrogance and refusal to honor requests of the Commission to provide clarifications regarding documents he submitted for ongoing investigation into an alleged media consultancy contract valued at US$12,600.00 entered into between the Ministry of Public Works and the management of FLASHPOINT, which was initiated by Mr. Keita.
Instead of Mr. Keita availing himself and cooperating with the investigation process, he challenged the authority of the LACC and reined insults at investigators of the Commission. The LACC was therefore left with no alternative, but to arrest Mr. Keita in order to submit to the authority of the Commission. He was in no way brutalized or manhandled as he is insinuating.
The LACC has always conducted its investigations in a professional manner for which it continues to be commended. Recently, the President of the Bassa Community College, Dr. Levi Zanga wrote the LACC thanking the Commission for the professional way it conducted an investigation involving him.
The Act establishing the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission gives it the mandate to investigate and prosecute all acts of corruption in both the public and private sectors of society. The Commission therefore remains resolute in implementing this mandate and will not allow anyone regardless of status to obstruct its work as no one is above the law.
