Kenya: Sports Queen Earn Promotion to Top League

Kibera Girls Sporting Academy Queens are the new addition to the national women's Premier League. KGSA took the sole promotion slot after emerging top in the just concluded Division One League. The newcomers replace Kamaliza Eaglets and Sotik who were relegated from the top tier following a string of poor results.

The newcomers have equally recruited heavily in a bid to counter competition in the top league. The team that is currently training at Woodley grounds have brought on board Sharon Bushenei, formerly of Matuu and national under-20 team duo of Kate Magambo and Cherise Avilia. The team is being coach by former Kenya national team international Simon Mulama.

Speaking at the Woodley Stadium, team manager George Okalo said their promotion didn't not come on a silver plater as they had to work hard for it. "We thank God for this opportunity. We are the first team in Kibera to play in the national league and we intend to make the best out of this and make Kibera proud," said Okalo. The newcomers will open their season against defending champions Matuu and Second-placed MOYAS.
