Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) champions Telkom Orange and Nairobi Simba lead a host of top local teams to the Nairobi Hockey Association pre-season tournament at the City Park this weekend.
A total of 13 teams have so far confirmed participation They are-- Orange Telkom, Vikings, Strathmore, Kenyatta University and USIU (women) and Parkroad, Wazalendo, Karate Axiom, Kenya Police, Greensharks, Strathmore, Kenyatta University and USIU (men). The winners in both the men's and women's competitions will be awarded Sh20,000, while runners up will receive Sh10,000. Top scorers in both competitions will be awarded Sh2,000.
Each of the participating teams shall pay a Sh2,000 registration fee. The tournament will be used to select a provisional Nairobi Hockey Association (NHA) Development team. Other interested teams that are yet to register have been asked to do so before tomorrow's deadline. They are also supposed to hand in a list of 18 players who will take part and their shirt numbers which must be retained for the duration of the tournament. International Hockey Federation (FIH) rules will be applied including installing a video umpire for the semifinal and final matches. Each match shall be played for 30 minutes in two halves of 15 minutes each.
