Kenya: HIV Infection High Among the Married, Says NGO

MARRIED people are most at risk of HIV/Aids infection, an NGO has said. Aids Health Care Foundation has said the spread of HIV/Aids among married people is high due to multiple sexual partners in marriages.

"The spread among married couple is alarming. People have multiple partners outside marriages whom they assume they can trust putting themselves at great risk of getting infected," said AHF prevention programmes coordinator Mary Nyaguthii.

She was speaking at the Jomo Kenyatta public beach during an awareness campaign by AHF and the National Museum of Kenya at the weekend.

The foundation has been distributing free condoms to mark the International Condoms Day, an informal holiday observed on February 13 along with Valentine's Day. It distributed 100,000 condoms and tested more than 1,000 people last week.
