Uganda: The Hostel Stars in Movie Project

Three of The Hostel's lead cast members - Diana Kahunde (Annet), Moses 'Bismac' Amumpaire (Brother Mathew) and Kenyan actress, Perry Njenga (Makona) - have joined the cast of a forthcoming local film.

Still photos from locations show the trio in fancy robes as they join an ensemble on the set of Njazi Empire, an upcoming feature by fast-rising director Rashida Kayaga, better known as Stamina.

The traditional kingdom-inspired film is currently in production at various locations around Kampala and is set to premiere not later than April. Amumpaire and Kahunde play royalty while Njenga is their sidekick.

Kayaga, who also wrote, produced and acts in the movie, was cagey about details. But insiders said she is working with a minimal budget.

Meanwhile, in a move many predict as the last nail in The Hostel's coffin, NTV Uganda, the show's sole local telecaster, on Monday premiered another local series titled Deception. The Hostel has been off air since December, but was promising a February return, funds permitting.

"All I can tell you now is that we are still in talks to get finances. Nothing more," Fast Track Productions' Conrad Nkutu told The Observer.

Njazi Empire will also feature faded music star, Lady Mariam of the Tindatine fame.
