Nigeria: Zaria 2013 Polo Tourney Holds April

The much anticipated date for the commencement of Zaria Polo tournament has been fixed. The management of the club has said the Polo tournament will take place between April 6 and 13, 2013 at its traditional venue Zaria Polo Ground, Muhammadu Aminu Square, Zaria in Kaduna State.

According to the management of the club, trophies to be competed for during the national polo fiesta are the Royal Signal Cup, Emir of Zazzau Cup, Governor's Cup and University Cup. Others include Vice President Namadi Sambo Cup, Sarkin Zazzau Mallam Jafaru Memorial Cup, General Hassan Usman Katsina Cup, Commandant Cup, Beginners Cup and Veterans Cup.

Reputed to be the biggest annual event in the game's calendar in the country, this edition promises to be the most competitive and exciting. The event also has the backing of the Kaduna State Government, under His Excellency, Alhaji (Dr.) Mukthar Ramalan Yero, the executive governor of Kaduna and patron of Zaria Polo Club.

The club management committee is headed by Barrister Sambo Shehu Idris (Sarkin Kudun Zazzau) - Chairman, Alhaji Aminu Saidu Iya - 1st Vice Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim BN Paki - 2nd Vice Chairman, Mukthar Isa Hazo - Polo Captain, and Aliyu Musa (Santurakin Maru) - Secretary others include Alhaji Sanusi Umar (Sarkin Mallamai Zazzau) - Treasurer, Aliyu Umar (Alingo) - Ground Member, Umar Abdullahi - PRO, Danladi Kuta - Entertainment, Abubakar Sani Riminstiwa - Assistant Polo Captain and Shehu Mohammed - Pony Welfare Officer.

The Zaria polo event is usually staged during the Easter holidays being one of the earliest polo clubs established in Nigeria.
