Nigeria: Varsity Student Docked for Allegedly Stealing Blackberry

Abeokuta — The police on Tuesday arraigned a 21-year-old student, Sunday Oludare, before an Abeokuta Magistrates' Court for allegedly stealing a Blackberry phone which the police said was valued at N10,000.

The accused who was not represented, pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Augustine Ozimini, said the accused allegedly committed the offence on Feb. 14 at about 12 p.m. at the Abeokuta Campus of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic.

He said that the accused accosted the complainant, one Toheeb Ojelade, a new student and collected his phone forcefully.

"Oludare accosted the fresher, bullied him, collected the phone from him and forcefully chased him away," he said.

The Magistrate, Mr Idowu Olayinka, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum, and adjourned the case to Feb. 28 for further hearing. NAN
