Zimbabwe: VP Nkomo Remembered

The House of Assembly yesterday paid tribute to the late Vice President John Landa Nkomo with the members remembering the legacy left by the national hero. Legislators across the political divide were united in praising VP Nkomo who died last month and was buried at the National Heroes Acre.

The motion was moved by Zvishavane Runde MP Cde Larry Mavhima (Zanu-PF) who called upon the House to celebrate the life of VP Nkomo whom he said rendered sterling services to the nation both before and after independence

Mhondoro Ngezi MP Cde Bright Matonga (Zanu-PF) said, "That is the kind of respect people had on Vice President Nkomo. He was not Ndebele, Kalanga, Shona but was Zimbabwe first and foremost," said Cde Matonga.

Magwegwe MP Mr Felix Magalela Sibanda (MDC-T) described the VP as "a hero of heroes". Uzumba MP Cde Simba Mudarikwa (Zanu-PF) said Zimbabwe was established because of the sterling work done by people like VP Nkomo.
