Nigeria: Police Arraign Woman for Allegedly Assaulting a Man

The police on Tuesday arraigned a 35-year-old woman, Eucharia Onyeogara of Madalla, Niger, before an Abuja Area Court for allegedly colluding with 10 others to beat up one Mr White Ebezim.

The police prosecutor, Sgt Christopher Roko, told the court that the case was reported to the Utako Police Station on Feb. 15, by Ebezim of Kadokuchu Abuja.

Roko said that on Feb 12, while Ebezim was in the accused's shop at Utako, Onyeogara ordered 10 young boys who pounced on him beating him up with sticks.

He said that Ebezim did not provoke the accused.

He said Onyeogara was charged with joint act and assault which contravened provisons of sections 79 and 264 of the Penal Code.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The judge, Mr Ahmed Ado, granted the accused bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.

"I admit the accused to bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety who must be a civil servant of any grade level and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court," Ado ruled.

He adjourned the case to March 14, for hearing. NAN
