Seven French tourists have been abducted by gunmen in Cameroun, French President Francois Hollande, has confirmed.

Attackers in northern Cameroon seized the tourists near the Nigerian border on Tuesday.

Mr. Hollande said those kidnapped , including children, were taken by a "known terrorist group based in Nigeria".

The victims are believed to be a family returning from a trip to a National Park in Cameroon before they were attacked.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the kidnap.

The kidnap occurs two days after seven foreigners were abducted in the Northern Nigeria state of Bauchi.

New Islamist militant group, Ansaru, on Monday, claimed responsibility for the abduction in Bauchi State, where one guard was killed before the assailants accessed the Lebanese-owned construction firm, Setraco, to kidnap the workers. The seven workers - one Briton, an Italian, a Greek and four Lebanese- were kidnapped in Jama'are area of Bauchi in the early hours of Sunday.

Ansaru in a statement said it acted in retaliation for French military intervention in Mali where an international coalition led by France, has pushed back Islamists from the country's north.
