Somalia: Al Shabaab Clash With Allied Forces in Janaale

Janaale — Clashes in the outskirts of Janaale, a town in lower Shabelle region Tuesday night between Somali troops alongside AMISOM forces and Al Shabaab resulted in three dead, Garowe Online reports.

According to local sources, there was heavy fighting between the two sides Tuesday night and artillery could be heard throughout the district.

Local sources in Janaale told GO that there were 3 alleged Al Shabaab fighters killed in the clashes Tuesday night.

AMISOM forces alongside Somali troops captured the town of Janaale after Al Shabaab vacated the town hours before the allied forces' operation.

Al Shabaab who had been controlling the town for many years enforced a tax system on farmers in the agricultural rich town. The taxes had been a source of income for the terrorist organization for many years.

After a tense week among residents in Janaale the situation is gradually getting calm as people are trying to adjust to the new authority in the town.
