Siliana — Economic, administrative, social and educational activities were paralysed Thursday in all delegations of the Governorate of Siliana after a general strike called for by the Regional Labour Union and representatives of the political parties, organisations and civil society in the region.
The strike was decided after a meeting held Wednesday evening to assess the general situation in the country, in the wake of the assassination of Chokri Belaid, Secretary-General of the Unified Democratic Patriotic Party and Co-ordinator General of the Popular Front.
Representatives of the civil society also observed a sit-in outside the seat of the governorate of Siliana, calling on the authorities to "act swiftly to face up to all forms of verbal, physical and political violence," and "arrest those involved in this heinous crime."
Protesters then headed to the office of Ennahdha in Siliana and destroyed its equipment.
