The British High Commission in Banjul has donated a range of official London 2012 Olympic merchandise to winners of the national school athletics championships, which took place at Serekunda West Mini Stadium Monday afternoon.

Among the prizes donated to the winners were lunchboxes, drink bottles, London 2012 mascots, footballs and school rucksacks.

UK High Commissioner to The Gambia David Morley presented the winners with their prizes yesterday evening, and commented:

"I'm delighted that London 2012 Olympics merchandise has gone to such worthy recipients.I congratulate all involved with the National School Athletics Championship which was a well organised and enjoyable event for all involved.I have no doubt that the winners of yesterday's races will go on to become Gambian sports stars and, hopefully, one day in the future represent The Gambia at the Olympics and on the world stage."
